Building Better Outcomes

Building Better Outcomes is an organisational manual for the community and voluntary sector.

It has been developed out of ten years experience providing practical supports that help community and voluntary organisations deliver more effectively for the communities and people they work with.

Building Better Outcomes is written in clear, easy to understand language with a selection of templates, summaries and sample documents to guide you through the process of running a community development organisation.

Below is a summary of each chapter content which will give you a sample of what is on offer in the manual.

Chapter One-Governance

Who makes this decision and why?’. A guide to the legal and decision making structures of a typical non-profit community or voluntary organisation. Responsibilities of directors, different possible management structures and compliance requirements for your organisation.

Chapter Two-Recruitment, Selection and Employment

Selecting the best staff can be a crucial decision for any community or voluntary organisation. A process based on core competencies ensures best practice. Also support and supervision, discipline and grievance procedures and unfair dismissal situations.

Chapter Three-Planning

Good planning is central to an effective community or voluntary organisation. Strategic, Operational and staff workplans are covered with supporting templates and guidelines. Consultation with the local community and key stakeholders along with provision for review and evaluation.

Chapter Four-Systems

Any efficient organisation is underpinned by good systems and a community or voluntary organisation is no different. Keeping accounts and organising financial systems, dealing with tax and petty cash. Also reporting to funders and Voluntary Boards of Management.

Chapter Five – Employment Policies and Procedures

Rather than have to deal with issues as they arise in your community or voluntary organisation, it is much better to have a range of policies and procedures in place that deal with issues including sexual harassment, internet policy, stress and safety.
